DOROTHY MCGUIRE?

Dorothy McGuire

DOROTHY MCGUIRE (1916-2001), born Dorothy Hackett McGuire

Friendly Persuasion (1956)
Haven't you seen Friendly Persuasion (1956)? Dorothy McGuire plays a Quaker minister and both a wife and mother, up against the onset of the U.S. Civil War.

Watch this and then see these other four films.

Old Yeller (1957) a tender Disney film taking place in 1869 Texas about a family whose father is away and their love for a yellow hunting dog. Dorothy McGuire plays mother to both Tommy Kirk and Kevin Corcoran.
The Spiral Staircase (1946) This film had me on the edge of my seat as a teen. It is still one of the best thrillers that I've ever seen. It is not Hitchcock, but it sure is as good.
Gentleman's Agreement (1947) This is an excellent film which stars Gregory Peck about a writer pretending to be Jewish and finding rampant anti-Semitism. Dorothy McGuire plays his girlfriend Kathy.
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (1955) about the hardships of tenement life at the turn of the 20th Century in Brooklyn, New York. Dorothy McGuire plays a mother struggling to support her family.
