MARY WICKES?

Mary WickesMARY WICKES (1910-1995), born Mary Isabelle Wickenhauser, was an actress I saw again and again in television shows. She often played housekeepers, old maids, nuns and nurses. She was in some fifty films, twenty-seven Broadway productions and more than ten television shows. She did voices for animated features as well. She even played Mary Poppins on live television before Julie Andrews did. You may have heard her voice as the gargoyle Laverne in Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame. There are so many good films of which Mary Wickes took part that it is difficult to suggest only five. I have to say though that I enjoyed her role as the nun Sister Mary Lazarus in Sister Act (1992) most of all.

On Moonlight Bay (1951)Haven't you seen On Moonlight Bay (1951) She plays Stella (The Winfields' cook and housekeeper).

Watch this and then see these other four films.

The Man Who Came to Dinner (1942) She plays Nurse Preen.
White Christmas (1954) She plays Emma Allen (housekeeper).
The Music Man (1962) She plays Mrs. Squires.
The Trouble with Angels (1966) She plays Sister Clarissa (nun).
